Bakery Updates

 

The bakery is complete and opened  for business on October 22, 2011. The massive brick oven was enough to open the bakery for baking bread. In December a  pastry oven was installed and  is  producing  incredibly delicious pastries. Commercial accounts are being developed and the bakery is starting to produce profits after only three months in business.

The employees are justly proud of their accomplishment. When the project was first proposed  the commitment was made that it was being built for the people of the barrio. All employees are barrio residents and other than the manager had no baking experience. Master baker Ermis Morales has trained the staff well.

The one piece of equipment that we do not have  yet is a micro bus to deliver bread and pick up supplies. The bakers are using the foundation pickup truck now and that is really not a suitable vehicle. A good late model, gently used vehicle will cost approximately $10,000.00 US. We have raised $3800.00  as of January 26th.
